Finals Week

As the semester winds down, I’ve been thinking a lot about this class. It has easily been one of the most enjoyable and well-structured courses I’ve taken during my time at ONU. From the start, the class's setup made it feel different in the best way. Instead of just listening to lectures or doing assignments that only take place in the classroom, we got the chance to work with a real client: Osborne Family Retrievers. Having that opportunity made everything feel more meaningful. It was fun to watch the project grow week by week, and being able to develop something real for an actual family business gave the class a sense of purpose you don’t always get in college. Getting to present our work to the Osborne family near the end of the semester was a highlight; it wrapped the whole experience together and made all the effort feel worth it. Now that we’ve finished our presentations, it’s officially that time of year: finals week. Luckily for me, this is one of my lighter exam stretche...

And Just Like That It's All Over..

The ForeverLawn Bowl didn’t end the way any of us hoped, but it was a game that showed the heart, fight, and brotherhood that defined our entire season. From the opening kickoff, things didn’t come easy. We came out a little slow, and Wabash took advantage, jumping out to a 10–0 lead. Nothing was clicking the way we wanted, but no one panicked; we’ve been in tough spots before. We finally broke through with a score to cut the deficit, but Wabash answered right back, stretching it to 17–7. On top of that, we had some struggles on special teams. A couple of punts were blocked, and each one gave Wabash great field position, forcing our defense to defend short fields far too often. Still, we kept swinging. The second quarter is where we truly settled in. We started moving the ball, playing with rhythm, and the energy on the sideline shifted. We put up 14 points to their 7, battling all the way back to make it 24–21 going into halftime. Even though we were still trailing, it didn’t feel lik...

Final Week

Saturday’s 56–14 win over Otterbein was one of those games that reminded us exactly who we are when we settle in and play our brand of football, even if it took us a little while to get rolling. We came out a bit slow, not fully clicking the way we knew we could. At halftime, we were only up by 14, and even though we were in control, it didn’t feel like we had truly taken over yet. In the locker room, the message was simple: finish strong, execute, and play the way we’ve trained to play since August. The second half felt completely different. Everything started to flow: offense, defense, special teams. We exploded out of the gate and never looked back, putting up points and shutting Otterbein down across the board. By the time the fourth quarter hit, we were playing with confidence, energy, and the type of rhythm that has defined some of our best moments this season. Walking off that field with a 56–14 win felt like the type of complete performance we knew we were capable of. But after...

Week 11

Saturday was a huge day for our team and our program. Hosting #22 Baldwin Wallace at home, we knew exactly what was at stake. A win would keep our playoff hopes alive and show that we are one of the top teams in the conference. From the moment we took the field, the energy was different. We started the game with the ball and came out strong, driving down the field and scoring on our opening possession. That early touchdown set the tone, but Baldwin Wallace responded immediately with a kickoff return touchdown that swung the momentum right back their way. From there, it turned into a battle. Both teams traded punches through the first half, and Baldwin Wallace took a 21-17 lead into halftime. Coming out of the break, they struck first again, extending their lead to 11. It was a tough spot, but we had been there before. Just a week earlier, we had come back from the same situation, and we knew if we stayed together and kept playing our game, we could do it again. Our offense answered wit...

Week 10

Saturday’s game against Mount St. Joseph was one to remember. From the opening kickoff, the energy was electric. We started the game with a huge kick return touchdown that immediately set the tone and gave us momentum. That kind of play can change everything, and it definitely fired up the entire sideline. After that fast start, both teams settled in. We were able to get a few stops defensively, but our offense couldn’t quite find its rhythm early on. Then in the second quarter, things really opened up. Both offenses started to click, and it quickly turned into a high-scoring battle. Mount St. Joseph was able to put together some strong drives before halftime and went into the break leading 20-14. At halftime, there was no panic in our locker room, just belief. We knew if we stuck to our game plan and played with confidence, we could come back and finish strong. But early in the second half, Mount St. Joseph struck again and added a two-point conversion to take a 14-point lead. At that...

Week 9

Last Saturday was a tough one for us. We went into Alliance to face Mount Union knowing exactly what kind of challenge we were walking into. All week, our preparation was sharp. We felt focused, locked in, and ready to compete. The energy in the locker room before kickoff was different. Everyone understood the moment and what it meant, not just for us as players, but for the program as a whole. Playing at Mount Union is always a great atmosphere. They’ve built a tradition of excellence, and we were excited for the chance to measure ourselves against one of the best teams in the country. We came out ready to go, and on the first defensive drive, we made a big stop that gave us early confidence. Unfortunately, after that, things didn’t go quite the way we had hoped. Their defense made some key stops, and their offense started to find a rhythm. Mount Union is a very disciplined, well-coached team, and they executed their game plan better than we did. Even though we didn’t get the result w...

Week 8

Saturday was one of those games where everything just seemed to click. We came out confident against Capital, and from the very first drive, we played our brand of football. After last year’s close matchup that came down to the wire, this time we wanted to leave no doubt, and we did exactly that with a 56-0 shutout win. Getting ahead early was huge for us. The offense came out firing, setting the tone with quick scores, while the defense completely locked things down from start to finish. Pitching a shutout is hard to do at any level, and to do it in a conference game says a lot about the focus and effort from everyone on the field. The energy on the sidelines was incredible all game long. We executed, we stayed disciplined, and we never took our foot off the gas. But as satisfying as that win was, we know we can’t spend too much time celebrating it. Our focus immediately shifted to this week and to one of the biggest games in recent program history. On Saturday, we travel to Alliance ...
