Don't Be Afraid Of Change

A lesson that I have learned this week is that change can be good. Lots of people including me may often be scared of change. Many of us don't like the thought of it and like our daily routine. Even though change can be scary it can also be for the better. This is a lesson I would learn throughout the week.

Throughout the week change was a topic that was often on my mind. It first started with football. As I thought about our upcoming game to kick off our season I thought of the significant changes we have gone through as a team. The biggest change is our coaching staff. Our coaching staff for the most part are all new to Ohio Northern this year. This can have challenges as it means a new way of doing things. New system, new team goals, etc. For the most part, the team has embraced this change and is ready for our new chapter that kicks off this Saturday against Franklin. Going along with change for the team I have also gone through personal change on the field. I switched positions this year from Linebacker to Defensive End. This change was scary to me as I did not know if it would be something that I would enjoy. Come to find out I believe that it was the best change for me. It has given me more love and drive for the game. Switching positions also comes with getting a new position coach. Coach Thomas our defensive line coach I believe has done a lot not just for me but the other guys on the defensive line. He brings energy to the position group that we all love and we can feel that he truly cares for us.

With that being said change can be scary but also can be beneficial. Breaking out of your shell and experiencing new things can lead to some great memories and even better experiences. If you do the same thing every day how can you expect different results?

  1. Change can always be tough, but I am glad to see that you have embraced it while making it into a positive experience. As both a fan and friend, I’m excited to see all that you and the football team accomplish this year. With your new role and positional coach, it sounds like it's been a very positive change. Keep on working and hopefully, I’ll be able to come catch a game this season!

  2. I also have a hard time dealing with change. On the other side of the school, the Musical Theatre program also lost some major faculty this year. It's a hard adjustment coming back to school and not knowing what to expect. I have a routine that I like to stick to so change tends to really frustrate me. However, I know that my education will be just as good with whoever takes over those positions. Also, this is kind of ironic because football and musical theatre share a building! We've probably seen each other around.
