Last Week Of The Season

     This past Saturday at Baldwin Wallace was one of our toughest losses of the season. We knew that we were going into a tough environment to play in and that we needed to bring our best. We started the game and they came out and scored a quick touchdown on us. We could have put our heads down and gave up but we came out strong after the first drive. We were able to get a couple touchdowns and our defense was playing very well. We were not allowing them to move the ball very much and we would go into halftime up 14-7. At the half, we felt confident going into the second half and made some adjustments we believed could help us maintain the lead and come out with a win. The second half started off well and we continued to play good defense. Our offense was starting to slow down a bit but our defense was able to stop them from scoring and we continued to maintain the lead. Going into the fourth quarter we were up 20-14. Our offense in the fourth quarter was starting to struggle and Baldwin Wallace was able to get their offense going. They would take a 27-20 lead on us with 1:30 left on the clock. Our offense led a nice drive down the field and we were able to score. We were left with the choice to either kick the field goal and tie the game and take us into overtime or go for two and take the lead. Our coaches and the team felt confident in going for two and attempting to win the game. We would not convert on the two-point conversion and we would go on to lose 26-27. This was a tough loss for us to take as a team and this eliminated our ability to have a winning record. This leaves us with a choice do we want to go 5-5 or do we want to fall to a losing record at 4-6. 

    This coming Saturday for our last game we face Otterbein at their place. Otterbein is a team that has been struggling to find their identity and have had some coaching changes. They currently have an interim head coach who recently has been informed that he and the rest of the coaching staff will not be retained. They are a team that only has one win on the year and are looking to finish their season off with a win. This is a team that we are fully confident that we can beat but we must not look past them. This is a game that we need to go out and play hard for our seniors as it will be their last game. This season has had its ups and downs but it has been a good one and I hope to end the season off on a good note!

    Tough loss against Baldwin Wallace, especially when its a close heartbreaker like that, I always hated playing there. Good luck against Otterbein this coming weekend, we're all rooting for you guys.

    Tough couple games down the stretch but glad you were able to finish with the best season in the last 5 years. Go Bears!

Bye Week

     Going into last Saturday's matchup against Heidelberg, we knew how much this game meant not only because it was Senior Day, but because we were coming off a tough loss the week before. The feeling all week in practice was that we had something to prove. We wanted to show everyone what Ohio Northern football really is.      From the first snap, there was a different energy on the field. Our defense was able to set the tone early, flying around and making big stops, and the offense fed off that momentum. We executed the game plan the way we knew we could, hitting some big plays and running the ball well. Week 5

     Last Saturday’s game at Wilmington was a reminder of what we already knew about playing in the OAC: there are no easy wins. We came away with the victory, but it was a much tighter game than we expected, 41-35. Credit to Wilmington; they played with a lot of fight and pushed us for the four full quarters. Even though we weren’t as sharp as we wanted to be in certain areas, we stayed together as a team, made plays when needed, and found a way to finish strong.      Games like that are humbling in the best way. They show us that no matter who the opponent is, we can’t take anything for granted. We have to bring our best every single week.
