Bye Week
Going into last Saturday's matchup against Heidelberg, we knew how much this game meant not only because it was Senior Day, but because we were coming off a tough loss the week before. The feeling all week in practice was that we had something to prove. We wanted to show everyone what Ohio Northern football really is.
From the first snap, there was a different energy on the field. Our defense was able to set the tone early, flying around and making big stops, and the offense fed off that momentum. We executed the game plan the way we knew we could, hitting some big plays and running the ball well. Every drive felt like we were building toward something bigger, and when we were able to take a 19-7 lead going into halftime, we felt pretty confident that we could continue that going into the second half.
What stood out most was how complete a team effort it was. Every position group stepped up, special teams pinned Heidelberg deep more than once, the offense was able to make big plays, and the defense forced turnovers and created stops at key moments that kept them from gaining momentum. When the final whistle blew and the scoreboard read in our favor, you could feel the sense of pride within our team. We didn’t just win, we responded. We bounced back after adversity and reminded ourselves what we’re capable of.
For our seniors, it was a perfect way to end our senior day. Seeing the smiles on everyone's faces, knowing they’ve poured years of sweat and effort into this program, made the win even more meaningful.
Now, with the bye week ahead, the focus shifts. The win gives us momentum, but we know the work isn’t done. This week will be about getting healthy, cleaning up mistakes, and sharpening the little things before we get back on the field. A bye isn’t just rest, it’s an opportunity to reset, regroup, and come back even stronger.
We’re proud of how we fought against Heidelberg, but we also know our goals are bigger than one win. This bye week is the perfect chance to recharge and prepare for Wilmington on the 27th.
This was a great recap! The team effort and strong mindset really shows what ONU football is all about!
