Confidence Is Key
Deion Sanders once said, "If you don't believe in yourself how will somebody else believe in you". Deion Sanders is someone who is often in the media as he is a big personality and head coach of the University of Colorado football team. Deion Sanders is someone I follow and seeing this quote is one that struck me and really stuck with me this week.
This week I have started to realize that I often lack confidence. This lack of confidence is hurtful to my performance in whatever I do. Whether it is class, football, etc. having a lack of confidence is detrimental to what I do. I know that I and many others often struggle with having confidence in ourselves. I believe that a lack of confidence does not allow us to perform at our fullest potential.
Many people when they hear the word confidence often mistake it for being cocky or arrogant. This is not always the case. Often times it is the confidence internally that many people lack. They will tell themselves that they can not do something or it is "impossible" when it is something they can achieve if they put their mind to it.
Looking back I feel that I have missed opportunities because of my lack of confidence. If I would have had the confidence to go the extra step I may not have missed out. Going forward I plan to try and be confident in my ability in whatever I am doing and always give it my 100% even if I fail. I challenge you to do the same and remember next time you are doing something to be confident in your ability and don't be afraid to fail.
Gage, I can relate to this post on many levels as a student-athlete. Without confidence, it would be very difficult for me to perform at such a high level. I appreciate you for opening up about this, as not many people dare to do so. I hope you continue to strive for confidence and always remember that, regardless of a bad practice, game, or any setback, you were brought here for a reason, and no one can take that away from you!
