Marketing With Instagram

Instagram was founded in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Kreiger. They started it based off of their passion for photography and sharing it on a platform that is easy to use and centered around photos. Within 9 months of the launch of the app, Instagram was able to attract 7 million users and by April 12th they were able to pass the 30 million mark. The app would gain the attention of Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook and just 2 years after the release of the app Facebook would purchase the app for $1 billion. Today Instagram has an astounding 2 billion monthly active users.

With this Instagram is also a popular social media for businesses. About 71% of US businesses are active on Instagram. A business Instagram account offers the same features as a personal profile but with the added benefits of powerful analytics. These benefits include the ability to create Instagram ads, add contact information, industry information, and a business address directly to the profile section.

Instagram is the second most popular social media for advertisers. Instagram advertising audience overview reveals that marketers can potentially reach 1.65 billion users with their ads on the platform. Since Meta owns Instagram the platform offers many of the same ad types targeting options and ad objectives. Some of these include location, demographics, custom audiences, lookalike audiences, interests, behaviors, and automated targeting.

With this in mind, Instagram is a great platform for businesses to grow. They can reach millions of people with their ads and marketing. Instagram especially being for a younger demographic can be beneficial for businesses as well. Many people of the younger demographic are more willing to order from a business off the app than the older demographic. With the reach that Instagram has it is crucial as a business to be active on the platform.
