Marketing With Snapchat

Snapchat just like many other successful platforms was first founded on a college campus. At Stanford Reggie Brown, Evan Spiegel, and Bobby Murphy created the app. It started with the idea of creating an app with disappearing pictures. It first launched in July of 2011 known as Picaboo and then changed to Snapchat in Septemeber of the same year. Today more than 406 million people use Snapchat daily and over 750 million monthly.

Today Snapchat helps businesses reach new audiences, raise brand awareness, and drive action. Snapchat is a great way for businesses to reach a younger audience as many high school and college students use the app frequently. Advertising on the platform has proved to be very successful. Snap ads receive twice the visual attention as Facebook 1.5 more than Instagram and are 1.3 more times effective than Youtube.

When posting content on Snapchat it is important to post short and fun content. Content such as quick and funny moments is popular so brands must capitalize by sharing quick in the moment content. It is also important to post daily and at optimal times. When it comes to what time it is important to think when your target market is likely going to be on the platform. Since most of the app users are teenagers and college students before and after school hours are some optimal times. Evenings and late nights are also times that they may be on the platform.

Snapchat offers ad solutions for all types of businesses, from large to small, ad offerings are tailored to advertising needs and goals. Snapchat also allows advertisers to choose from over 300 audiences based on what Snapchaters care about, what they buy, what they watch, and where they go. They also provide ad objectives that fall into various categories. Brands decide what they want a user to do when they see a snap ad.

Ultimately businesses can use Snapchat to reach a younger audience and provide short, fun, and engaging content. It is a platform that continues to grow within the younger generation. Advertising has proven to be effective on the platform as many people are able to engage with the businesses. I believe that Snapchat is very useful to market with and will only continue to grow.
