Social Dilemma

In the last class, we started the movie Social Dilemma. I was not familiar with the movie, so I was excited to start it and see what it was all about. So far, the movie has definitely been an eye-opener. I say this because of all the new things and perspectives the movie has shown me about social media. There are a lot of things that we do not realize about social media when we pick it up on the daily.      The movie starts off with former employees of big companies such as Google, Facebook, Instagram, etc. They talk about how working with these companies was and how at times they felt that what they were doing was not the most ethical way to go about things. They talked about how many of the companies would implement new tactics to keep the users on the apps longer and longer. Many of the employees felt that the platforms were already addictive and that they should be trying to limit this addiction rather than add to it. Some employees even talked ab...

The Season Is Over

Last Saturday officially closed out my Junior football season here at Ohio Northern. We traveled to Otterbein and came out with a 47-15 win. We started off the first half strong on defense, but we were not able to get our offense going. We would have some costly mistakes on offense and special teams and they would get a touchdown and a safety. We were able to respond, get a touchdown and field goal before the half, and go into halftime up 10-9. At halftime, we knew this was not good enough as this was a weaker team in the conference and we knew it was our job to come out firing in the second half. We were able to come out of the second half strong and we were firing on all cylinders. We were able to ramp it up on offense and our defense continued to hold them. Late in the game while we were up by a good margin we were able to get in a lot of seniors that have not played much throughout the season. It was a good moment and we were able to celebrate all of our seniors...

TikTok

TikTok is an app that many of us know and love. TikTok is an app that has affected my generation greatly and is one of the most used apps today. It is an app that I find myself constantly picking up and endlessly scrolling. It has attracted many users as it is very similar to a former popular app named Vine. Vine was an app that had the same format as TikTok and would be filled with many funny and entertaining short clips. After the app Vine shut down in 2017, it left many people looking for an app to fill that void. I believe that TikTok was the app to do this and why it was able to explode onto the scene.       TikTok is a video-sharing social media platform used to make various videos that can last up to ten minutes. TikTok is owned by a Chinese company Bytedance and was initially released in China in 2016 attracting over 100 million users in just a year. It became available worldwide in August 2018 when the Chinese social media service and Mus...

Last Week Of The Season

This past Saturday at Baldwin Wallace was one of our toughest losses of the season. We knew that we were going into a tough environment to play in and that we needed to bring our best. We started the game and they came out and scored a quick touchdown on us. We could have put our heads down and gave up but we came out strong after the first drive. We were able to get a couple touchdowns and our defense was playing very well. We were not allowing them to move the ball very much and we would go into halftime up 14-7. At the half, we felt confident going into the second half and made some adjustments we believed could help us maintain the lead and come out with a win. The second half started off well and we continued to play good defense. Our offense was starting to slow down a bit but our defense was able to stop them from scoring and we continued to maintain the lead. Going into the fourth quarter we were up 20-14. Our offense in the fourth quarter was starting to st...

Youtube

YouTube was founded in 2005 by Hurley, Chen, and Karim. They founded YouTube after they had difficulty sharing a video that they created at a dinner party. Google was eventually acquired by Google in 2006 for over $1.65 billion. With over 2.49 billion monthly active users watching over 5 billion videos on the platform every single day, YouTube is the most popular online video-sharing website and the second most visited site in the world.      Video marketing has begun to take over the world and YouTube is at the front of this revolution. Brands are continuously making content on YouTube and running video ads to help drive engagement to reach their target audience. 90% of the top 500 brands have at least one active YouTube channel. This is not just limited to a certain business category. All different types of brands have a significant presence on the platform with millions of subscribers.      The primary key to success with YouTube is ...

Last 2

Last Saturday did not go the way that we wanted it to. We hosted John Carroll in a game that, if we had won, could have been huge for us. Unfortunately, it did not go our way, and we were not able to execute our game plan as we wanted to. We knew going into the game that John Carroll was one of if not our toughest opponents that we would face all season. They played a very physical and clean game and we ended up losing 49-13.      With two weeks left in the season, we are currently sitting at a 4-4 record. We have the chance to finish with a winning record which hasn't been done here in a few years. Our other options are to finish 5-5 or 4-6. As a group, we talked and all agreed that 5-5 is an average record and that 4-6 is unacceptable. As a team, we have high standards and look to try and meet them week by week. Looking ahead we have two winnable games coming up. This Saturday we play Baldwin Wallace on the road. They are a team that we have lost to in the past fe...
