Last Saturday did not go the way that we wanted it to. We hosted John Carroll in a game that, if we had won, could have been huge for us. Unfortunately, it did not go our way, and we were not able to execute our game plan as we wanted to. We knew going into the game that John Carroll was one of if not our toughest opponents that we would face all season. They played a very physical and clean game and we ended up losing 49-13.
With two weeks left in the season, we are currently sitting at a 4-4 record. We have the chance to finish with a winning record which hasn't been done here in a few years. Our other options are to finish 5-5 or 4-6. As a group, we talked and all agreed that 5-5 is an average record and that 4-6 is unacceptable. As a team, we have high standards and look to try and meet them week by week. Looking ahead we have two winnable games coming up. This Saturday we play Baldwin Wallace on the road. They are a team that we have lost to in the past few years but we look to capitalize this year on them losing a lot of players after last season. They are one of the weaker Baldwin Wallace teams that we have seen and we believe that we can get it done. We can not underestimate this game as their stadium is a tough place to play. They play well at their home stadium and if we want to win we must execute at all levels of the game. After that, our final game of the season is at Otterbein. Otterbein we believe is a very winnable game but is also one that we must not overlook. They are a team with only one win and are looking to get that big win on the season.
Looking at these next two weeks it can tell us a lot about where we are as a team. Are we a team after a couple hard losses that gave up on the season or a team that will finish the year off strong. I believe that we are a team that will finish off strong. Our coaches have really instilled this in us since day one. These are the final two games that we will have with this team. Some guys will go off and graduate, some may not return and some coaches may even not be back after this season. This has been a great group of guys and I look to taking advantage of enjoying these last two weeks with them.
Tough loss last weekend, but it’s good to see you guys staying focused on the bigger picture. Finishing with a winning record is still in reach, and it sounds like the team knows what’s at stake. Best of luck the rest of the way and finish the season how you want to be remembered!
