Simternship
Now that the semester is closing in on the end, we have officially finished our simternship. After finishing I felt that it was helpful and enjoyable to do but on the other hand felt at times that it became time-consuming. At the beginning of the semester, I stayed on top of it and completed each round weekly. After some time, I began to procrastinate as some of the weeks got busy with other class assignments. I feel that learning how to create organic posts and paid posts and working with influencers for a brand will help in the future.
The internship started with telling us about the company that we would be working for. The company was Buhi Bags and we would be managing their Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube. Although this could seem like a lot to manage they gave you analytics on each platform to help you to best utilize each of them. It then started with the first three rounds being about creating organic social media posts. It was all about learning what times and which platforms to post on to bring in the best results. It was helpful in these three rounds to learn which platforms worked best and which ones to stray away from.
Next was the paid social media posts. This part was different because it now required planning of how I would spend my budget. Before I could spend the money on which pictures or videos I wanted to use but now I could spend money on that and how much to spend on each day to promote a post. This required planning on how much I would spend on a certain post depending on which platforms were the most successful. It also requires you to target a certain audience to make sure that you are reaching the best audience for the platform. This set of rounds helped me learn how to balance my budget and learn how to target a certain audience.
I then moved on to the rounds where I would work with influencers to help promote Buhi. This set of rounds I found the most fun but always the most frustrating. While looking at different influencers I tried to look for the ones who had the most following on the platforms that worked the best for me. While doing so trying to negotiate a certain price with some bigger influencers is where my frustration began. Some of them would work with Buhi for a somewhat good price while others no matter how hard I tried would not accept the deal and ultimately turn me down. I also learned that just because they are the bigger influencer does not mean they are the best to work with. At times I would get better results from smaller influencers.
Finally the last 3 rounds would be putting all three together. At this point, I felt that I had it down and was able to get through it pretty easily. I feel that going through each round allowed me to learn about each individually and then ultimately be able to put them all together. I feel that this experience was beneficial and will be something that I will carry with me in the future.
